Howard Heather (SHS 1986)

COMMISSIONER, POLITICAL ADVISOR

Heather Howard’s words of wisdom beneath her senior picture in Bandersnatch contain the famous Ronald Reagan Question, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”
She has devoted her professional life to secure the answer “yes” from both politicians and the citizenry they serve.

At Scarsdale High School, Howard was a very strong student. I can vouch for that. And her promise was fulfilled at Duke University, where she graduated cum laude and at the N.Y.U. School of Law.

Her talents were recognized almost immediately. She became Chief of Staff for Senator Corzine, focusing on policy development and legislative initiatives and then served at the U.S. Department of Justice, litigating health care anti-trust matters. She also was a respected policy advisor to President Clinton, First Lady Hillary Clinton and Congresswoman Nita Lowey

When Corzine was elected Governor of New Jersey he knew the success of his administration would be measured by the service provided its citizens. So in November, 2007, he nominated Heather Howard as Commissioner of Health and Senior Services. He is a very smart man.
