Author Gish Jen (SHS '73) explains why she created a family of ‘Resisters’

Gish Jen, whose new book, “The Resisters,” is her fifth novel and her first in nine years, is sitting in her home office in Cambridge, Mass., and describing it with writerly precision. “Cambridge, this time of year, does not have a lot of light, but I do have windows on two sides, so every bit of light available in Cambridge is right here in my office,” she says. She’s particularly proud of a library ladder for her two walls of bookshelves. “We all want one, don’t we?”

Six-time Tony and Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh will return to the Mizner Park Cultural Center on March 28th and 29th for four performances only with her Broadway-bound musical Tovah is LEONA! The show, in which Feldshuh assumes the persona of real estate mogul and hotelier Leona Helmsley, played to sold-out houses in early January.

Arte calls up Submarine, Pumpernickel for Douglas Rushkoff (SHS '79) digital docuseries

European cultural broadcaster Arte has ordered a four-part docuseries about the digital economy from Amsterdam and LA-based producer Submarine, France’s Pumpernickel Films and media expert Douglas Rushkoff.

Exponential follows Rushkoff as he takes viewers on a journey from the beginning of the digital age through its transformation by big business to the possibilities for a more human-centred future.

Political journalist Mara Liasson (SHS '73) to speak at Shasta College

NPR political correspondent and Fox News panelist Mara Liasson will present at the Shasta College Theater at 6 p.m. March 16.

Liasson will draw on her decades-long, award-winning career to provide an engaging evaluation of the canvas of American politics and the 2020 election followed by a Q&A session and a meet and greet. The event is free and open to the public.
